Barangaroo Pedestrian Link

Barangaroo Pedestrian Link

Client: Sydney Metro Authority
Year: 2010

Engaged by the Sydney Metro Authority to produce the Public Art Strategy for the Barangaroo Pedestrian Link (BPL) project, providing connectivity between Barangaroo and Wynyard Station.

We provided an overview of public art opportunities of the BPL project and informed the development of the concept design. The BPL was seen as an important opportunity to integrate public art work into a major new corridor in the CBD connecting transport hubs and street scapes within the Barangaroo redevelopment.

In keeping with international benchmarks, we recommended public art form an integral part of the urban streetscape, architecture and civic structures of the development.  It was seen as an important way of enhancing the BPL’s character and style, facilitate wayfinding, adding a unique aesthetic signature, providing an opportunity for narratives (such as The Story of Barangaroo and the Pre European Shoreline), adding cultural layers and activating city spaces.

Sydney Metro engaged Merran Morrison to prepare the Public Art Strategy and Tender section for the CBD Metro and Barangaroo Wynyard Pedestrian Link. Throughout the project she was were professional and efficient, always ready withinnovative and creative suggestions. Her work was always timely despite challenging deadlines. The art strategy for Metro is seen as having the potential to be one of the major innovations for the Sydney project setting new benchmarks internationally for the integration of public art in architecture and public infrastructure projects…
